open source bitlet
bitlet is already free and that's great, how about taking the project open source? it will help a lot of people and make bitlet.org more popular.
thanks!
Will definitely look into that. In the meanwhile, we open sourced weupnp ;)

@soltys: It would add more features, it would add more security, it would reduce bugs and increase performance. All of this would come from a community of developers investing time to improve the project. It would also free it up so that developers working on projects could use it to create things beyond the original idea.
I personally have a great idea to use bitlet (and I'm sure many others do too).

Great ! Open-source Bitlet could use code from dead free projects (blogtorrent, broadcast machine... ).

Definitely a good idea (why not agpl v.3+ ?) ! It would make bitlet more popular among linux users, and bring new ressources ( the "donate" button is more often used on community websites). Wordpress is open-source, but the central "wordpress.com" server is very popular, despite ads.

Well, open source allows everyone that knows Java and BitTorrent to contribute new features, UIs, plugins and other things then leaving BitLet as a simple little gimmick. I think open source is a great thing, but if the makers of BitLet don't - start small with allowing others to embed BitLet (and the embeddable version having a large ad for bitlet on it) on their own web sites.

It would definitely help to accelerate the development and also help greatly independent sites which can not afford the bandwidth for classic streaming. Great for freedom ... if it would be free :)
Right now, sites can not afford to be dependent on closed source, every reasonably big project needs guarantees that it will not make puff or charge money all of a sudden. And people could be more willing to donate to open-source ...
I would very much like to see it happen ... so once again, pleeeeeease? :)

I think there are many ideas that might come about if this was open the code was open. It is a great idea and there is a lot to do this it beyond what it is being used for now.

For a low budget site look to independently host lots of large media files like the I am trying to set up right now I can allow/encourage people to download torrents to save on bandwidth (by sharing the distribution of the bandwidth accross multiple peers) but downloading torrents is still not mainstream knowledge and can also have negative connotations. I would very much like to use the features of bitlet as perhaps the main way for people to recieve content on my site, to the point where the user does not even have to know what a torrent is, however I am not sure if I could depend on bitlet to serve as the sole host for these features, thus if it could be made open source and I could serve these features on my server myself that would be fantastic.
Just now however the only other solution is to well not have a low budget at all, i think I may have a good deal for my setup right now but not sure how stable or reliable it is.
The features that bitlet has, i think, hold the key to me being able to move forward.
The only disadvantage I can see for the people of bitlet is however once the code is released there being lots of clones of bitlet being setup and bitlet losing the unique corner in the market that they hold just now. I guess this just depends on the ethos of the people of bitlet and/or if they can find something unique that will make sure they stand apart from the rest of the clones and/or they still have to build up larger reputation and presence in order to make sure they remain in the drivers seat?
But yeah, basically, this feature would be great!
Pleeeeeeeeease! :)

I don't get point, why it should be open source? Somebody can give me more reasons, please?
